Getting Started
Q: How do I connect to a lab device?
After logging in, you'll see available devices on the dashboard. Click on a device to connect. If it's in use, you can join the queue and we'll notify you when it's available.
Q: What happens if a device is busy?
You can join the queue for that device. You'll receive a notification when it's your turn, and you'll have 5 minutes to connect before we notify the next person in line.
Q: Can I use multiple devices at the same time?
No, you can only connect to one device at a time. If you try to connect to a different device, you'll be asked to disconnect from your current session first.
Device Usage
Q: What can I do on the lab devices?
You can practice network configurations, test commands, and complete exercises. The devices are isolated in VLANs for security and to prevent interference between users.
Q: What commands are available?
Use the ? symbol on the device terminal to see all available commands for that device.
Q: What level of access do I have on the devices?
Most configuration items are available for you to explore and modify. However, the commit operation is restricted to prevent permanent changes. Use ? to see all available commands at any prompt level. To reset your configuration changes, use rollback 0.
Session Management
Q: How long can I use a device?
Each session lasts 30 minutes. After that, your connection will automatically end to give others fair access.
Q: What happens if I'm idle during a session?
If you're inactive for 15 minutes, you'll see a warning. If you don't respond within 1 minute, your session will be disconnected to free up the device for others.
Q: Will my configurations be saved between sessions?
No, device configurations are regularly reset. Always save your work locally (copy commands, take screenshots, or document configurations externally) before disconnecting.
Q: Can I reconnect to the same device after my session ends?
Yes, if the device is available. If someone else is using it, you can join the queue.
Technical Issues
Q: The terminal isn't responding. What should I do?
Try pressing Ctrl+C using the button at the top of the terminal. If that doesn't work, refresh your browser page to reconnect.
Q: I'm getting connection errors. What could be wrong?
Check your internet connection and ensure your browser allows cookies. We recommend using Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. If issues persist, use the "Get in touch" button to report the problem.
Q: Which browsers are supported?
We recommend using the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Make sure JavaScript and cookies are enabled.
Q: Can I use S2 Academy on mobile?
While the platform works on tablets and mobile devices, we recommend using a desktop or laptop for the best experience, especially for configuration work.
Queue & Notifications
Q: How do I know when a device is available?
You'll receive an on-screen notification when it's your turn. Make sure to keep the S2 Academy tab open or check back within 5 minutes.
Q: What if I miss my notification?
If you don't connect within 5 minutes, we'll notify the next person in the queue. You'll need to rejoin the queue.
Q: Can I see my position in the queue?
Yes, the dashboard shows how many people are waiting ahead of you for each device.
Account & Access
Q: Is S2 Academy free?
Yes, during the beta phase, all access is free. We plan to introduce paid subscriptions in 2026, and we'll provide reasonable advance notice.
Q: How do I delete my account?
Q: Can I share my account with others?
No, account sharing is strictly prohibited and may result in account suspension.
